I naturally gravitate towards character-driven stories. Much of the news I cover as a social video producer is on heavy and complex topics. So naturally, when I can do the reporting myself, I gravitate towards stories that highlight the “joy and wonder” of the world.

I pitched, shot and produced this piece on Texas Woman’s University’s youngest-ever graduate, 16-year-old Hana Taylor Schlitz, who lost her biological mother to tuberculosis and was put in an orphanage in Ethiopia at only 10 months old. The record was previously held by her sister Haley.

This has garnered over 275,000 views on Instagram.
